Topic: Figure judging

Patti - the fit body consists of 5 poses the front double bicep, ab/thigh, side chest, side tricep and back double bicep.  All poses have open hands and you have to wear heels just like figure.  Beauty and presentation are factored into the scoring along with condition, symmetry and muscularity.  I added it to my Monster Mash show in November.  It was a great addition.  All of the people who did do it told me it was a lot of fun and they liked that they were being judged on more specific things because each pose has a requirement and the judges are looking for specific things.  Check out my sites and you will see some photos.  We will be having a session on it at the Weekend Camp January 17-18th.

Mary, I would love for you to come if you are available.  Even if it is one day, just let me know.

Topic: Figure judging

Hi Mary - Great thread.  I hope it will be helpful for figure competitors.  I cannot believe how many people step on stage before ever seeing a show.  This thread will help all of the figure competitors out there who want to improve but are not sure what to do.  For all figure competitors,  I recommend learning all of the bodybuilding poses because they will help with the figure stances.  Also, for those who like it, the Fit Body may be more challenging and enjoyable than the figure.

Eric, I agree the shift from women's bodybuilding to figure has changed the judging of both.  Figure is more and more competitive and the little things matter even more now because two people can be very equal and one may just have more spark on stage so you go with that one.  With other judges, it could go the other way.  You have to score all of the definite markers of a perfect figure physique but then the presentation and other things come into play.  For anyone looking to compete, presentation can really help you score higher with the judges.

Topic: INBF/WNBF and NANBF have chosen to part ways

People will have to really think  this out and decide if they want to give up their WNBF status if they compete in the IFPA.  For amateurs, the INBF will be the only qualifying events for the WNBF.

Thanks for getting the info up Melissa!  Yes, it is June 6th this year.  The school had lots of recitals and events booked so wqe had to push it out.  We will be having a speacial award for the person who places highest in my show, Robert's and Charlie's.  You will get points for placement.  I will have all of the details soon.  If you are from the Northeast, these three shows being so close together make it very convenient for you to get a lot of competing in.  They are all good established shows and pro qualifiers.

Topic: INBF/WNBF and NANBF have chosen to part ways

Yes Joe, I agree.  Competition always makes you better.  I think there will be enough changes in the INBF/WNBF to add shows where necessary and make the organization stronger.  Sometimes it takes something like this to push people to the next level.  Most of the INBF promoters have been doing this for years.  The big challenge will be getting additional shows in the Mid West.  I am sure some people out there who have not promoted will look at this as an opportunity.  The INBF will support the promoters and help them get going.  If people are interested in promoting, they should contact Charlie Carollo ASAP.

I would have liked to see Fred, Jan and the NANBF stay with the WNBF but that is not what they felt was best for their organzation.  I wish them well.  I have seen so many different things happen and it all works out so it should be okay.

Topic: INBF/WNBF and NANBF have chosen to part ways

Hi Everyone:

As one of the founding promoters for the INBF, I am very saddened by this news.  I too received the email and also had a phone call from Fred explaining what happened.  For amateurs, it should not change much because most amateurs compete in shows that are local.  The pro level is where you will see some changes.  There have been many top pros who went to the WNBF through the NANBF.  If these athletes choose to go elsewhere there may be a period that the pro numbers drop off slightly but it will pick right back up.  Chelo Publishing, Steve Downs and Charlie Carollo are all committed to growing natural bodybuilding.  I am sure the INBF will expand as necessary.  I just hate to see the whole field watered down and I hope that does not happen.  We have been through splits before so this is not the first time.  Before the INBF was formed, the NGA was the way you had to qualify to the WNBF.  Part of the reason they left was because the WNBF decided to team up with the NANBF and the NGA did not like that they could not promote in the Mid West.  So, it is interesting that this has come full circle and now the NGA is its own organization and the NANBF is too.  Fred has the network to run all of his own pro shows so if a pro goes with them, I am sure they will have a good experience.  Fred and Jan are very good at what they do.   I hope at some point,  all of the natural pros can come together and make natural bodybuilding a sport that is recognized outside our world! Maybe down the road it will happen but for now, both organizations will have to do their best to increase athlete turnout and get more people involved.

If anyone has questions for me regarding competing in the INBF, WNBF or elsewhere I would be happy to answer them.

Topic: Inside Edition Interview

Some of you may not have heard about Albert Arroyo.  He competed in the WNBF Pro American in May.  About a month before the show, he filed for permanent disability with the Boston Fire Dept. due to a back injury.  There is a lot going on with Boston Fire Dept and they are under a lot of scrutiny because two firefighters killed in a fire were both found with drugs in their bodies at the time of death.  Also, they have  pension scandal going on that people were filing diability claims while they were filling in for people with a higher rank, thus making them eligible for the higher ranks pension and disability.  So, the media is coming down very hard on Albert.  They have the tape of the show.  I am not sure what Inside Edition will include but they interviewed me, Reynolds Shepherd (Albert's trainer) and Dr. Rick Silverman.  It is supposed to be on tonight, Friday July 18th.  Check it out.

Topic: New England Seminar with DOC

Hi Everyone:

Dr. Joe and I have set the date for our fall seminar.  It looks like September 27th is the date.  We will have a one day seminar including 3 hours of nutrition lecture.  For people who have attended in the past, we will be adding new segments.  This is a great opportunity for everyone to fine tune things before the Monster Mash on November 1st and the Worlds on November 8th.   The seminar will be in Massachusetts.

I will have fliers in the next two weeks.  If anyone can hang one at their gym, please email me your mailing address.  We will have other pros involved too.  I am in the process of getting everything together.  Bill Murphy is definitely in!

Please spread the word.  Joe is the BEST.  Everytime he presents, you will learn something new.  Even if you have heard him before, I recommend coming again.  There is always new info and you will have it.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Hi Everyone

Thanks to all who came to the show.  I am glad to see that you enjoyed it.  We had a great group of athletes.  I only wish Joe and Sean could have made it.  Special thanks to Bill Murphy for completing all of his assignments!  (It cracked me up the way you worded it!)  Also, thanks to Funda, Jordan, Kerrie, Andre, Judy, Darren, Al, Jen, Jen and the whole crew!  Things went smoothly.  We were finished by 9 PM which is no easy task with 120 athletes.  I am looking forward to the Monster Mash.  In the meantime, I would love to get together if you have any group training sessions.  It would be good for me!  Keep me posted.

Results are up and all of the pictures are coming.

I am considering going to watch the Hercules so let me know if any of you are going.

Topic: Baby Jamie

Hi Everyone:

I wanted to share this picture with everyone.  My daughter Jamie weighing in at 13 lbs.  She is going to be 6 months next week.   She has been sitting since 5 months and is starting to move so I know crawling will come soon.

I give all parents who compete a lot of credit.  It is tough to do everything.  My training is going well but I have found I have to go at a much faster pace.  It is definitely a good change and I am enjoying it.

I hope you like this picture!  I am pretty sure I know who will like it the most - the Gladiator Mary Ford!  Yes, Mary, I agree you would be a great Gladiator!

Topic: summer offseason

Hi Joe:

With natural bodybuilding, there is no off season.  What you do during the year will show when you get on stage.  Very often, those who try to stay lean or diet for the summer, do not do as well when they compete.  If you are working with Joe, have him map out the entire plan so that you end up the best you can be when you hit the stage.

Topic: WNBF PRO AMERICAN & INBF NORTHEAST CLASSIC

Hi Craig:

Yes, it is a great show with all levels competing.  The novice classes are very big.  Then there are the pros. So, you will see it all.  If there are any teens competing, please some.  We usually have a good number of teens and juniors.

Reg Bradford and Todd Ganci are both shooting the show.  Please take advantage of it because many of us who have competed a lot did not have the opportunity to do photoshoots and now wich we had.  I always offer great photographers and a video because you never know when you will be in that shape again. Then when you are not in that kind of shape, it is nice to look back at it.  And when you are competing again, you can use the photos and videos to improve.

Topic: WNBF PRO AMERICAN & INBF NORTHEAST CLASSIC

Hi Everyone:

I just wanted to post the date for the WNBF PRO American and INBF Northeast Classic.  It will be May 3rd in Marlborough, MA.  The Pro portion has men's and women's bodybuilding and figure.  The amateur portion has novice, open etc.  It is a WNBF Pro qualifier.  I am hoping to have very strong women's bodybuilding numbers.   Some shows have had low numbers for women's bodybuilding but not this one.  If you are a female competitor and you want to win a prestigous amateur title, this is the show to enter.  I have heard lots of complaints from women who enter shows and the numbers are low.  The classes have been big the last few years and this year should be the same.  All of the classes are very competitive.

Dr. Joe and Sean are coming and setting up a booth so if you have never met them in person, you should come to watch the show.  Maybe they will bring along the reigning World Champion!

I hope to see lots of forum members competing.  IF you are not competing, come to watch and enjoy the after party and the golf tournament!  Pam is working on that one for us!  Hoepfully we can pull it off!

If you want info, go to my website, www.neclassic.com
