     I agree with Joe, bodybuilding is not a sport. However, many olympic events are not in the "sport" category.

Due to the limited popularity of bodybuilding in general I highly doubt it would ever gain olympic status. We are fanatical and passionate about it, but the general public is not.

  Haven't been posting lately, just reading  the forums. Everyone competing looks great (as usual doc), I wouldn't expect anything less. Myself I am just having fun training, no contests on the radar yet.   Its all about fun anyway don't take it too serious, keep it in perspective. I have been enjoying my 3 kids activities. One rides horses, my son plays baseball and wrestles. I can't believe the body comp on some of the parents, do they own a mirror? They all ask me @ dieting, I just reply "cut two prongs off the fork". I have to remember we are not the normal ones.

My middle daughter is a mutant (12yrs old 5'5" tall 110lbs of muscle she eats well and workout a little) lacrosse player, I am traveling to a few of the bigger summer tourneys with her. I am going to the national draw in NJ this weekend. She just completed the 6th gade and is playing with a varsity club team the girls are 4-5 yrs older.

 Most of the girls she plays with are from Ridgefield CT, I think that is Mary's territory. They are all TALL with blond ponytails. Mary whats in the water down there? Anyway I will try to post more.

The thing about Golds not being partial, but LA, 24 hour, ect. .. they are publicly traded and do not franchise. Golds will not let you open (at least the new owners) undercapitalized or in a bad location they want to ensure your sucess. That is why you need to be liquid or heavily backed. More small studio type facilities close than large fitness centers it is a fact.

I buy used equipment and resell it (different company), most of the stuff from banks is bought from the little guys. The franchises equipment is just the end of lease stuff. Years ago you could open a big box throw some equipment in there and make $$$ no more.

I also donot think you can start small like I did nowadays, too many options you would be swalloed up. Planet, Golds, LA, plus many on their own savvy club operators.  The franchises are now going into the suburbs rather than the cities because of less competition.
