Topic: FAME Kristin, I wish nothing but the best for you. You are a great competitor and I have no doubt you will win a pro card at a show in the future and I look forward to seeing you again at shows. Man, everyone around here is so hostile towards me LOL ... I think I'm a pretty nice guy LOL!
Sean... I thought I might be able to sneak that one past you :D |

Topic: FAME to be honest I have not heard good things from several people who's opinion I value.
If you want to still do the shows I'd do them, I would just not expect as much as like an NANBF show |

Topic: NPC Natural Shows it really depends on the individual promotor and how serious they take their testing. You have some shows that take it very serious like Dave's and then other's where 'drug-free' is more of a suggestion than a requirement

Topic: fat loss \protein synthesis[meal frequency] ah, yes, based on my research, eating every 2 hours with small protein doses is not as productive as eating larger doses spaced further apart

Topic: fat loss \protein synthesis[meal frequency] I don't recommend eating every 2 hours to maximize protein synthesis, not sure where you read that. And eating more frequently than 3 times per day has not been shown to increase thermic output in any of the studies I have read. In fact the one paper looking at eating isocaloric 3x per day vs. 6x/day showed better body composition outcomes on 3x/day. I'm not ready to buy the farm that eating 3x day is superior or vice versa until i see more mechanistic evidence, but the idea that the more meals you eat, the greater your thermic output seems to be a fallacy

Topic: How much body fat to grow? It really depends upon the individual and their particular setpoint. I know some people can stay around a legit 6-7% at make gains at that bodyfat while other's will need to be closer to 12-15%. It's quite variable.

Topic: Protein bars are they as filling and fibrous as something like chicken rice & broccoli? no. But are they better than a cheeseburger in a pinch or nothing at all if you are crunched for time? better believe it.
I would not go out of your way to eat one, but if your have limited time & options then they are fine. |

Topic: beta alanine not much data available... but I doubt it.
much of the ideas of 'cycling' came up because people cycle anabolic hormones. Steroids cause shut down of endogenous production of hormones and so cycling is nessecary. Though feedback pathways exist for many metabolites, they are usually not nearly as sensitive, nor activated as quickly as when dealing with hormones.
I could be wrong, but as of now I see no evidence to suggest cycling is beneficial. |

Topic: Beta Alanine Effectiveness Raph, if you just stopped taking it today, how can you evaluate it's effectiveness based on one day? Also, when did you start taking it? You've been prepping for a while, so if you didn't see strength gains & endurance improvement it's likely that is more of a function of reduced bodyfat levels over time, rather than beta alanine not doing it's job. How did you maintain strength while prepping? worse than before? better than before? These are things to keep in mind when evaluating the effectiveness of a supplements. Certainly there is enough genetic variability amongst people that it may not work for some, but the research overall indicates as far as supplements go, it is very effective.

Topic: Mixing glutamine, bcaas and creatine post workout absolutely 100% completely and utterly false. Please see my article here: http://www.musculardevelopment.com/content/view/89/54/
"Myth: "Don't take your Creatine with protein because protein contains glutamine and glutamine competes with Creatine for the same transporter!" The Real Deal: There's not an ounce of truth to this. Creatine and glutamine have completely different receptors. Creatine transport into skeletal muscle is regulated by the Creatine Transporter7 while glutamine transport into skeletal muscle is regulated by a system known as "System Nm." 8 The only thing these transporters have in common is that they are both sodium-dependent transporters, meaning that they use differences in sodium concentrations across the cell membrane to drive Creatine into cells. Apparently somewhere along the line, somebody believed that since glutamine and Creatine transporters both shared that characteristic, they must be the same transporter and the myth spread from there. Let the confusion end here: they do not share the same transporter, and taking protein/glutamine with Creatine won't decrease Creatine uptake into muscle."

Topic: Rock/Heavy Metal Concerts I also have to add that I worked out with Chimaira drummer Andols Herrick in Vegas. Turns out he is a huge BB fan and had contacted me after reading some of my articles. Found out we would both be in vegas at the same time so we hit up some legs in gold's :) Dude's pretty strong... and man he can wail on those drums :)

flex is not missing his myostatin gene. To be a homozygous knockout, it would be about a one in a trillion chance unless you were inbred.
Flex has a mutation of the gene |

Topic: 2008 Worlds Joe, Brad looks great, I think he's always looked great. I think he has phenoninal symmetry and I was extremely happy to see him win his pro card and then win a pro show. When I met him in 2006 at the show where I turned pro he was a great guy to me and I enjoyed hanging out with him. Especially with what he went through injury wise, I was happier than anyone to see him succeed. Hopefully he'll have more of it next year.

I'm up to 55 lb dumbbells for curls and rowing pretty much normally, though pulldowns/pullups I still have to be cautious |

Topic: What did you do Dr. Joe?? feels great. still a bit shaky sometimes from not lifting heavy for so long, but every week it gets noticibly better. Right now I'm 227 lbs (was 224 before I got hurt) and I'm pretty happy with my bodyfat at this weight and I added about 2/3" to my thighs during the past 8 months since the injury so I'm very happy about that. Overall it was most definitely a blessing in disguise. Other than having to get my chest cut open and being in a brace for 6 weeks haha
