Topic: '08 Begins!

Hi Denise, just checked out Kevin and there was such a change I had a hard time recognizing him...  quite different than when we met in California.  He really nailed the diet.  Let him know congrat's from me and that he looked awesome.  Looked like the competition wasn't all that easy either.

Topic: '08 Begins!

Yo Mary and all

Thanks for the miss.   Having just competed Saturday I will share my macro's from Sunday and this is after a pretty substantial filling day Sat. for the show which was an NPC pro qualifier in Lubbock TX.  Protein 278 grams, Carbs 638 grams, fat 212 grams.  Wow how many calories is that, and sodium was probably in the 10 to 12 gram range.  I was surprised in that I only weighed 162.50 this morning.  Normally it has been 156ish.  I think I was kinda bummed for not having placed in the top 3 open middle weight 154.25 to 176.25 class.  The guy who won the class won the overall.  I have been talking to Ken(Kmaster) and he has helped get me out of the dumps by reminding me of the reality of competing in the NPC non tested shows.  I knew that and just forgot in the heat of the show.   Anyway I brought home the trophy for 60 and over; not a real challenge since I was the only one in the class.  Hopefully  I helped some of the older spectators realize they can get in shape no matter the age.

Anyway I am out of my hole now and back on track to do Dave Goodin's Texas Shredder April the 26th.   Joe had me fuller on stage Saturday than I have ever been and I sacrificed very very little tightness for the fullness.  I can't imagine what he will have me looking like in 4 weeks.  Look forward to competing in a tested show again.

Congrats to all the team K competitors whether 1st place or not.

Hi Mary

After catch up on post it seems that congratulations are in order(regarding retirement).

Just wanted to let you know that you have been an inspiration to me and I have enjoyed your comments and hot avatars and hope to continue to.

And of course you know that you can always unretire.

Sounds as though you have found a solid training partner and that the 2 of you will make it a win/win.  I don't know that I could handle all that cardio.  How are your hips, knees and ankles holding up?  Mine would be wasted I fear.

Anyway keep up the good work and look forward to meeting you face to face sometime next year hopefully.

I haven't seen much of you but I bet you have a good 15 maybe 20 years of growing that you can do.  Even if the growth is very slow at least you will not being going in the opposite direction.  Weight training as far as I'm concerned is just a part of life that keeps us healthy.

Topic: Team K Contest Prep Weekends

Hi Funda

No I'm not going to be able to make it this year.  I'm saving my money to come up for Sean show in August.

I hate to miss it because there will be a lot of knowledge to be absorbed aside from seeing so many of the good folks from last year.

I know you guys will have a blast.

BTW I think your front double biceps avatar has got mine beat.

Man, I can't keep up with you guys.

That wasn't what I had in mind, but thanks for the compliment.  Smile

Second thought, maybe you should just stick with Rocky.

Topic: TIVO: What do YOU Watch?

Hi Mary

I don't know if this would go well with 5am cardio, but it is the best TV I have seen in years.  Best documentary I have seen on the subject period.  A couple of months ago PBS aired Ken Burn's "The War".  The history of WWII on both fronts from beginning to end.  It gave me an even greater appreciation for my parents generation and that appreciation was already tremendous.

We are loosing 1000 of those who participated in WWII daily according to Ken Burns.  Watch this and you will be looking for a veteran to hug before they are all gone.

Probably you can not record it, but you can buy the DVD's from PBS.  As they said in the show there are no good wars, only necessary wars and WWII was one of the most necessary.

If you continue to eat and train smart until you are 60 you won't need HGH.  I bet you could find something better to aspire to as well.

Ah heck, I know you already have.

I almost did that a few shows ago, but I backed out the last minute.  I had my aunts walker borrowed and everything.  Oh well, I will probably need one for real by next August.

Wouldnt have to worry about offending anyone if I really needed it.Laughing

All that said and I am still considering competing once again in the Masters National at Pittsburgh next year.  Nothing firm for the moment so maybe some comments here will sway me one way or the other.   In the Natural bb world I am not afforded an opportunity to compete against age equivalent competitors, 60 and up.  What's up with that?  As a matter of fact for now the Pittsburgh NPC show is the only one with any numbers available period; at least that I am aware of.

I very much did not like the fact that the heavyweight out scored me on upper body size alone, in my opinion. He was beaten on symmetry, balance and proportion, but most likely assisted size carried the day for him; something the judges had to be concentrating on to the detriment of all the other factors that are to be considered when judging.   I knew that would be the case going in so I was not surprised, but I still don't have to like it.

Maybe being the late bloomer that I am just mandates that I compete against others with equal BB experience, which makes everything balance out I suppose.  (just finished 5th year of competing)

Just hope I am able to continue improving for a few more years and then I can go up against the doc in a 40 and over somewhere.

No gripe really, bbing has been good to me; very very goood to me.

Thanks Joe for the look at the photo.  I was going to remind you to email it to me, but now you don't have to.  I was also going to send you an email thanking you for a great seminar, but I will just take this opportunity to do that.  Mich said we had a total of 40 in attendance so we were pleased.  I'm sorry we didn't have more bodybuilders, but with the couple from the Y maybe something will come of it, and I know from comments that attendees have made to me since that all were pleased with your presentation and they all said they learned something they can use to improve their life.  How could it be any other way.  I have a strong feeling that the chocolate lady, Dwane's wife, is going to contact you and see if she can hire you to get it right one last time and with you it will be the last time because it will be right.

It was great hanging with you and working out with you as it always is.  Maybe next time we will both have healthy shoulders and elbows.

Dropped another quarter pound with the 400 carb day, but today is carb up to 600 so hopefully that will reverse the trend and I will start moving up.

I really appreciate you helping Mich out and he said he surely did as well.  You never cease to amaze.

Topic: Jerry's Contest Prep 2007

hi Jerry

Just now reading your thread and I am sorry to hear about the cancelled show.  I don't suppose there is any chance you can change your mind and do the Alamo Showdown the end of September?  I sent in my entry form Monday so I will be there.  Don't think there is much chance of it being cancelled.  It would be great to meet you in person and compete together.   If not I totally understand.  You certainly have, as many have already said, a great attitude about the situation and as you said God does know best.

Hey Mary Ford,

for what it's worth I really liked your last avatar.  Sorry I missed you when it was up.  It was the one with you standing holding the dumbbells by your side.  It is my favorite of the many you have posted.  Just a for what it's worth, which isn't much considering the source.

Absolutely a great experience.  Ken, you are amazing.  You did a ton of work and the camp reflected that.  Great presenters and I received a great deal of good info. (obviously, what else would we get from TeamK) on training and particularly posing.  Hopefully the tweaks here and there as recommended will make a big difference.  Joe,  thanks again and my back is still good.  I have started the golf ball therapy and it works as you said it would, however not as good as your thumb, and it was great to get to refresh what you have taught or tried to teach me about nutrition and peaking.  Plus picked up some new stuff from you as well.  The participants were a great group as well and new friendships were forged.

Really looking forward to the Odessa seminar in October even more.

Again, thanks to all who were there.
