Topic: A public thank you to Dr. Joe

Thanks everyone.

Yeah, Mary.  I always seem to have a problem with color for some reason.  I thought I had it down this time then saw the pics... not so!  I've learned from this and will adjust for next time.

Denise, still remember and appreciate the "You remind me of Bob Paris" comment from the Capital City!  Stay warm and dry up north and hope to see you and Kevin next season.

Jordan, the way I understand it: As a WNBF Pro you can still compete in other org's amature shows but not any other Pro shows (such as Yorton cup) until you win money with the WNBF, then you are limited to WNBF shows only.  Personally, I just like to compete and don't really have a bias for or against any organization.  I'll likely stick with the WNBF as they still have far more Pro shows including a Masters Pro.  I must say, though, Matt Shepley is doing a great job expanding the OCB with quality shows and who knows how many Pro shows the IFPA will have in a couple of years.

As far as plans, just got sent info on the Cayman Islands show... ooohhh!  Looks cool, and there's a medical conference in Florida I was considering going to right after the competition...

 Happy Holidays Everyone!

Thanks, Jordan.  And thanks for the comment on posing--I worked on it just about everyday this time around so that it wouldn't be an issue come stage time.

Not sure what I'll do now.  Just saw the WNBF schedule for 2008 so I may start planning the next year around that in a few weeks.  Unfortunately for me, when I got as lean as I was for this show I started noticing structural flaws in my physique, so I'll really focus on bringing those up in the gym and see what happens.

Topic: A public thank you to Dr. Joe

You may have read in another thread in the Contests section, started by the Doc, that I won the OCB New York State Natural this past Saturday and won my Pro card in the IFPA.  I wanted to thank Dr. Joe here for all his help in my prep for this.   I won my Pro card for the WNBF this past July on my own but still felt that I "wasn't quite there," and did all I could on my own to that point.  As the Doc stated in the other thread, my conditioning in California was "sketchy."   I would go further and say that I was in shape, but not "conditioned."  Not even close.  Had I entered a Pro show like that I would've spent the entire day at the end of the stage (probably on the steps leading to the stage!)

It took a lot for me to seek help as I've always done this on my own, but after meeting Joe at the Cali Training Camp, talking with Ken Stevenson at length (thanks Ken!) and several others including Kevin and Denise James (thanks guys!) I knew this would be a great fit.  It turned out better than I could have imagined.  What Joe did with my physique in about 6 weeks still blows my mind.  I walked onto the stage this past Saturday, in quotes from others, "dry as the Sahara," "lean, dry, hard, and very professional." The last quote from one of the judges.  I was absolutely, freaky shredded! The head judge, Sully, told me afterwards that I have a Pro caliber physique, which meant a great deal to me.  I could not have done this without Joe guiding me.  I know everyone here believes this but I still have to state it, the man is the best at what he does.

Here is a link to the pics from the show, for anybody interested. This goes to the Overall; I'm the tallest white dude, black hair.

Thanks, Joe.  With your help I brought insane conditioning to the stage and won the 40+ Masters, the Open Light Heavyweights, and the Men's Overall at the OCB New York State Natural.  Great show, lots of solid competitors.  Tops off a phenomenal season for me.  (Jack Kunkel did the same show and we were in the Overall together--he did a great Hulk Hogan routine).

Good luck to all next week at the World's!  I'm due for a little offseason time!

Topic: CALI Info Needed

Mary,

Sorry so late in posting this.  I saw it a couple weeks ago and never got a chance to reply.

I live in far Northern California, in a town called Redding, Shasta County (zip 96003 if you're doing a map search).  We're about as far north in Cali as you can get before hitting Oregon and still have a decent sized city.  We're about in the middle of Cali east to west, 2 1/2 hours from the beach (sorry).  I'm originally from Southern Cali, moved to Michigan about 6 years ago, and have been here just over 2 years.

Why we're here:

Geography: sorry, no ocean beaches, but we have 2 very large lakes: Lake Shasta and Whiskeytown.  Very beautiful and clean; Lake Shasta is huge.  Surrounded on 3 sides by mountain ranges: the Trinity Alps, Mount Lassen Range, and Mount Shasta.  Snow skiing on Mt. Shasta 50 minutes from my house.  There are 4 seasons, but it rarely snows.  I can be in snow in about 20 minutes during winter, but don't have to deal with it otherwise.  It gets very hot in the summer (something I like).  You can be in the middle of nowhere (hiking, camping, etc.), get in your car, and in 15 minutes be eating at a cafe or drinking coffee at one of our many Starbucks (I pass 4 of them on my way the the gym, and it only takes me about 8 minutes to drive there).

The city: I haven't really lacked for anything here.  No, you won't find trendy chains of stores or restaurants but we have popular things and as I said, I haven't missed anthing.  It has what I want while still maintaining somewhat of a small town feel.  You can get to point A to almost anywhere in town in less that 15 minutes.

The people: midwest, friendly feel to them.  A lot of people here relocated from the Bay Area/So Cal to get away from the polution, crime, crowds and we're proud that we don't have any of that.   I grew up in So Cal (L.A./Orange County area) and watched it change over 34 or so years.  When we left I didn't realize how much I'd grown to dread it  There was no way I was going to raise my family there--one of the best decisions my wife and I have ever made.

As far as work, I don't have a handle on that.  I'm an ER doctor and work at the busiest hospital in the north state.  I don't know what you and your husband are looking to do (other than the obvious fitness-related things) so don't know if I'm much help there.

Downside is traveling.  We have a small airport that connects to San Francisco.  If you can get a reasonably priced flight out of Redding it's awesome (short drive, very quick check-in and security).  If not it's a 2 hour and 20 minute drive to Sacramento where you can get to most anywhere from.  The Sacramento airport is very easy to deal with, though.

Hope that give you a little more info.  As far as Placer County, I really don't know a lot about "Central" California, except it's very agricultural.  The closer you get to the beach, the more expensive it becomes and it's really not worth it to me.  We looked long and hard before deciding where to move when we left Michigan, and this is where we ended up.  One of my work partners interviewed at 29 places across the country and chose here as the place he wanted to settle down.

Any questions, please let me know,

Topic: JAN TANA

I would leave off the ProTan; I just don't think it would add anything.

So we have the product names right (she's changed them so much), the package comes with Onstage Competition Color, which they recommend only doing 2 coats of the day before the show.  I also recommend Competition Tan which is like the dark brown paint.  You can put that on over the Color the morning of the show if you don't think you're dark enough--it's like a lotion so it smooths on, then wait until it dries (15 or so minutes) and smooth it out with the moisturizing lotion.

I always bring a jar of Dream Tan with me, just in case.  And yes, they mix just fine.

Topic: JAN TANA

The new stuff is actually pretty good.  Nice color but I still don't think it's dark enough.  The recommendation is to start Friday afternoon and do only 2 coats.  I don't think more will help (I did a test run a few days ago and don't think more is better).

I decided to give the Jan Tana spray team (Roxana) a try this week and see how it goes.  If I didn't have that option, I would do 2 coats Jan Tana Onstage Tan the day before, then a coat of Jan Tana Competition Tan the morning of the the show.  If the Competition Tan goes on a little clumpy or uneven, use her moisturizing lotion all over to smooth it out.  I actually think the Competition Tan is dark enough to use by itself (one coat Saturday morning, touch up at the show).

By the way... hey Denise (and Kevin)!  A couple of days after Santa Rosa I became officially a part of Team Klemczewski, in large part due to talking with Kevin and especially Ken.  It also helped listening to and meeting Joe in person.  After 18 days with Joe my conditioning right now blows away my conditioning at the Sacramento show.  Now for peak week...

Joe O, best of luck at your show (sorry for getting sidetracked there).  I've found over time that the best tanning practices are the shortest; rather than 2 coats, sleep in it, 2 more coats, sleep in it, repeat for 2 more days...

After 1 application ProTan doesn't seem to stick to me so I've given that up.  If you've used ProTan bronzer you may have noticed (at least it's what I noticed on me) that more regular ProTan doesn't really make a difference as the bronzer seems to cover it up.  What I liked about Jan Tana Competition Tan is that is goes on like dark brown paint and covers anything else you've put on (so why put anything else on?)  One more coat at the venue and you should be good to go.  But... bring the moisturizer because that really evens the color out and gets rid of clumps.

Hope that helps, rather than confuse...

Agree, Ken.  Thank you again for pulling this together.

The day was absolutely incredible; one of the highlights since I've become involved in the sport.

Thank you to everyone who was there.

Thanks, Joe.

Haven't met Dave and am really looking forward to meeting both of you.  Don't really know many from the bodybuilding world as I've done all this--training, diet, contest prep--by myself to this point.  I've met Joan briefly, know Denise from Bob and Tina's show, and of course know Bob and Tina as they've been a great help getting me to where I am now.

Even though I won my pro card I know I still have quite a ways to go.  I'm looking to ratchet it up about 3 levels!  (I've seen some of the pros and may even need 4 or 5 levels more to be competitive!)

I've got a lot of "where do I go from here" questions regarding a few aspects of the sport and hope to pick many brains.

Thanks again and see you soon,

 Bob

Thanks to Ken for turning me on to this forum and the seminar.  My wife and I registered a couple of weeks ago.  Can't wait to meet everybody.  Last I heard Bob and Tina were going to try and make an appearance, depending on the kid situation.

For the out-of-towners, sun is no problem!
