Topic: What did you like about being lean?

I have an on-going conversation with a friend today about weight loss.  I offered her reasons why I liked being lean (aka contest shape) versus having added weight.  After reading through my list I got myself inspired and motivated to start-up the diet right now.  It's not time yet but now wish it was  :  Þ

For whoever is interested I will post what i wrote to her.  Please add your own memories from being lean everyone.  I hope this thread works as reminder to what we have all accomplished in the past and it sparks something in you to reach those goals again.

Ok, first off, the added weight makes everything harder to do for me.  Getting off the couch to dodging things in my apartment when rushing to turn off the forgotten oven burner.  I can't jump over boxes like I used to.

If someone (you) with less muscle, than I, loses 20 lbs. try to wonder what day-to-day life would be like?  Becaus I have more muscle it makes sense to me that lugging around an extra 20 lbs. would be easier for me.  I can only imagine how much difference that weight loss would make for a girl.

Did you happen to catch "The Biggest Loser" last night?  It is easy to see how hard it is for them to move around due to the extra weight.  That right there is a reminder to myself that being light feels good.  Those people are inspirational to boot with what they are trying to do.

I know you said you like the bigger me but I have 50% less clothes I can wear now.  That really bugs me.

I get people who come up to me now taken back by how much size I have put on.  I can tell you that does not make my head half as big as when people told me how good I looked when I was leaner.

Another big thing I liked about being leaner is how much more structure my face had.  I liked the extra bone structure showing.

My skin was a lot better with regards to acne, a lot better.

Lastly, it was cool to me to almost get turned away from giving blood because my heart rate was too slow.  To me, that means I was healthy, I hope!  Oh, my cholesterol and other levels were good too.  A+

I was told during the question and answer session at camp someone posed the question about taking a week off every few weeks.  Could someone please enlighten us what some of the answers were?

Topic: Hang Clean, Push Press and all the rest

Lucas,

Thank you for starting this thread!  I haven't incorporated this exercise into my workouts for over a year.  I forgot about it entirely.

I did sets of the push press followed by monster sets of other exercises for the shoulders.  The first exercise in the monster set was an explosive front raise with the BB.  I think the combination of the push press and the explosive front raises are superb.

Topic: Stevia plant products: Truevia, Purevia and what else?

Can people please post what stevia products they use?

I purchased a container of SteviZyme from Revolutionary Technology but it's not meant to cook with as the container is very small.

The local grocery store now carries Truevia and Purevia which are sweeteners derived from the stevia plant.  Anyone use these?

Topic: How much body fat to grow?

Hey all,

What are people's thoughts about building muscle with no concern of body fat (calorie surplus) versus counting macros to optimize one's MET rate to maintain a certain leanness while maximizing muscle mass.

Does one approach lend to more muscle growth than the other?

I derived this question from two guys I met at a show.  Both told me they allowed themselves to reach a weight I never thought possible for them before cutting.  They both had a lot of size with incredible leanness.  It could be all genetics, I realize that.  I would still like to hear what your opinions are.

Topic: Protein bars

My favorites are the Supreme bars.  I like the orange ones (16f, 34c, 30p) (non carb conscious) and the yellow guys (18f, 26c, 30p).

The Labradas are good too.

The coolest option is to make your own if you got the time.

Topic: Lucas: TIME TO GET STRONG

FWIW Lucas, I was watching a show on television about training Navy Seals.  One of the topics covered was how one's thoughts triggers different parts of the brain.  Examples used to convey the message waere the thoughts "I can" and "I can't" .  The part of the brain that was triggered when thinking "I can" helps soldiers complete grueling tasks.

I have noticed this myself at the gym when, for example, I tell myself to get 10 reps.  I notice I will typically fail at around the tenth rep.  When I tell myself to rep out the exercise, aim for 20 let's say, I will get many more than 10.  Anyone else realize this?

HA, good stuff.  I blend my oatmeal as well.  I love it as a fine powder with protein.

I guess I will stick with my big bagel, protein powder on top and fiber one cereal for crunch.  It is my favorite meal of the day.

Topic: The perfect post-workout concoction?!?!

Dextrose & Maltodextrin

I discovered that my fruit smoothies, with added sucrose (table sugar), was not the optimum post-workout blend I could be having.  I am trying to figure out what is.

Reading on the web it seems that a 50/50 ratio of dextrose & maltodextrin is a better post-workout blend.  I believe one can buy dextrose from the grocery store, it is called corn sugar.

I think the only way to get maltodextrin without purchasing more supplements is from baked products, is that true?  There is this product:

http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/now/carbo.html

I think to make the optimum post-workout conconction one would want to make a protein shake mixed with dextrose and have a bagel or maltodextrin supplement.

What do you guys think?

Topic: Does anyone account for fat lost during cooking?

One of my crazy questions again.

Does fat really cook out of meats?  Is the nutritional information for said foods accounting for the fatty liquids cooked out of the meat?

Topic: Foods for offseason

It has a compressor and freezes things on its own.  I used it for the first time last night when my friend wanted a midnight snack.  We used makeshift ingredients and the ice cream was still absolutely delicious.

I can not tell you the cost of the Musso Lussino; I am a bit embarrassed of the pricetag.  I did get money off (hopefully) using a Microsoft Live rebate.

Here is a picture of a sandwich I made which is 45 g carbs.  Post-contest stress is going to slap me in the face when I get there but there are ways to be smart of adding those tasty flavors we have to miss while dieting.

I just have to chime in here.

Joe saw what happened to me during my first weekend being off the pre-contest diet.  I am back on it now.  I could help myself from buying one of these though.

Topic: Naturalmania

Hey all,

First, no other way than foremost, I have to thank Jordan for everything he did for me (he knows the laundry list).  JC needs to change his name to focus because it rubs off on people.  When it comes to training I have it but he amplifies it.  When it came to prep, I had it there as well, but again, he peaks it.  He is a teacher of the sport and he rubs on some mean Jan Tana.  I AM IN TROUBLE FOR THAT ONE!

Behind him, Judy deserves a humungous thank you as well because she is the one who kept on me about giving the show some thought.  It eneded up being that I couldn't resist her beauty and charm so I had to say "Ok, girl.  I'll try!".

When I began dieting months ago it was with no reservations other than to see what Joe and I could do together.  I say Thank You Sir!  A large portion of that thank you is for your patience with me.  You were always polite and consoling when I was buggin' emotionally.  Joe, you are a class act!

To the members of Team K, you guys truly are like a family.  It is really something special.

Nancy K., I can't type words here that describe how amazing you are.  I can try though.  Thank you for being the yin to JC's yang.  You guys are a super duo to have at shows.  Secretly, I look to use the word "yin" for someone who I have a boy crush on!    You epitamize spontaneous and youthful.  You have a big heart and endearing passion for everyone.  That makes you unique like no other.

Kerrie, each and every time I see you the words "well-deserved" come first to my head.  Your work ethic and gains over the last year are beyond impressive.

Miki, I did not know you were going to be at the show.  The second I saw you on stage it hit me who you were.  You have an essence that can be seen in your pictures and is magnified in person.  Wow!

Micky, I want nothing more than to see you win your Pro card.  Your physique is incredible and you are a cool dude to boot.  I enjoyed hanging with you and your buddy and hearing the bicycle story.  I can't see anything a real future in this sport for you!

I met some great people not involved with Team K.  Below is a picture of Cody Wyere (Nocie lightweight winner) and I.  He was a super kid.  The best part of all of this was meeting all these new people with a desire to achieve more in this sport; incredible!
