Does anyone have any experience with any supplements that can increase ones appetite ? I'm 50 right now and I just don't eat as much as I used to when I was younger but I need to increase my food intake in order to gain and retain my muscle mass in order to compete. I must admit that I eat like a bird and not the pre-historic bird the Raptor. Maybe it all boils down to me needing to be motivated to compete again by training and eating hard. Robert in AZ.

Chile pepper Green tea Those will help put a fire in the tank. Also a non supplement is running in the morning. Run in the morning and you will be hungry all day long

I wouldn't fight too hard against your appetite. Some people have slower met rates, less hunger, and the benefit is that you spare muscle very well. As long as you have your bases covered with enough protein and carbs as far as spacing, just go by the scale...some guys need 400 grams of carbs a day and some 150. I've averaged around 2,200 calories a day for the last two months, have done just a very moderate amount of cardio, and have maintained my weight perfectly....some guys would have lost 12 lbs.

Thanks for the replies guys. The chilli pepper and green tea I can do, but the running that's a no-no. Working out in the morning does not go well with me. I loose bodyfat too easily and have a very hard time putting and keeping muscle mass on. Maybe I'm a little too paranoid with my appetite at the moment and that's because I had a case of Montezumas revenge recently which left me very much dehydrated down to a weight of 180 lbs from my usual 197 lbs. That was in February and now two months later, I'm at 191. My training is still pretty intense because the major compound movements make up most of my workouts, like the deep squat, bench press, chin-up, deadlift, push-press, reverse dips, dips and reverse hyperextension which is done on the reverse hyperextension machine ( which is rarely found in most gyms ) Yes Joe, you are right. ------------ I personally think I'm making a mountain out of a mole hill and maybe I should plan on doing the Mid-America show in August. That should get me motivated.

Then again your appetite increase probably means your metabolism is higher so you could be shooting yourself in the foot.....just stuff your face...eating more will get easier lucas

Hi Sean, thanks for returning the call and also nice speaking to you too. -- Yes Lucas, I wish I could just stuff my face but I tried it years ago and it help but could only do it for a couple of days and then I wanted to gagg. -- Problem solved, I think I will walk around all day with an I.V. in the arm, that may help me. ------- I believe I will be competing in August at the Mid- America show, so now I have to eat, no choice about it.

No I don't have a problem, it's just that now, I believe that I'm wasting time worrying about nothing. Like Dr. Joe said, not to fight to hard against my appetite. --- At almost 51, I'm still strong and thank God I can still do the major compound movements like full deep squats with 315 on the barbell, deadlift 405, no kneewraps, no belts, for reps. And can remain lean without trying too hard. ---- I should focus my energies on getting ready for the show in August. ---- Lucas, are you going to do the Mid-America coming up ??

Congrats to you on your first show and I'm sure that after that one, the bug would have bitten you and you would be hooked for life. -- I'm a good distance away from Evansville, I'm in Phoenix, Arizona. ---- When I first started they were no INBF/NANBF shows in Toronto, Canada where I lived, so I had to traveled all the way from the east to the westcoast of Canada to British Columbia for my first INBF show in 1998 and I stuck with them to this very moment. So ,keep on track with your training and train hard. Robert.

Hi Robert, You look great. Tons of muscle. I am actually going to try my first show this year as well in Toronto (IDFA) and if I like competing try to hit the INBF in the States next year. Increase appetite. I wish I had that problem. My best friend is going to compete in the same show this year and he is always trying to eat more as well. I, on the other hand, have a lot of weight to lose so I try to keep my appetite under control. Goood luck.

What's up Mark ? Thanks for the comment. I got some muscle but not tons of it, I wish. So you are going to do Shauns' show? that would be later this year because I believe there was a show this weekend in Toronto, if I'm right. I will be doing Sean M and Dr. Joes' show in August. The INBF /NANBF & WNBF put on the shows that I like that's why I'm still with them since 1999. You will have a great time in your first show. What gym are you at in Toronto ??

Hi Robert, I am going to try and compete in the IDFA in November. Still a long way to go for me. I want to compete there for my first time since it is so close to home. After that it is definitely the INBF or NANBF for me. I was at the show this past weekend in the audience. It was entertaining and well run. At least from what I could tell. I work out at the rec centre in Ajax right now. It serves my purpose for now but there are not many really serious trainers there. I will probably move to a Good Life or Extreme Fitness in October. Do you ever get back to Toronto?
