How do you know if you are crisp, full, tight, or flat? I've heard BB's say they've "spilled over?" Mary Ford posted these pictures to educate us. Mary, I hope you don't mind that I started a separate thread. I wanted everyone to see this & learn from it. Your humble amazon princess, Shellie

there's also stringy, overdieted and depleted Shellie - you see a LOT of those words on stage too.

shellie- here is a post from joe detailing some aspects of peaking and spilling over. JOE SAID: I'm hoping my post here saves me from copying and pasting the same answer over and over on Mondays, but I want to discuss what looking truly better the day after a show is and what the perception of looking better is. Consider the person who dehydrates, over-carbs, and ends up very flat, small, smooth, and thick-skinned looking. They get rehydrated, their muscle pulls in the water first, the interstitial glucose second, and BAM! - they're full, hard, and dry looking the day after. Now, think of being hydrated, full, hard, but not quite crossing that line where you're spilled over. That's as good as it gets. Of couse that night you eat 2,000 calories of crap, you lie in bed sweating, your heart pounding, you stand up and you have FREAKY vascularity. That night or the next morning. That's when I get the emails. But, as I always tell people, put your trunks on, look at your butt, look at your lower abs, look at yourself every two hours - you're going to turn into a marshmallow at any time. The fast vascularity you get is the first step in spilling over. Look at these pictures of my legs - one very tight, crisp, deep separations and the other with 200% more vascularity. If you only look at the veins - wow! But notice there's not a hint of separation or striation anywhere. Same body fat level, taken just a couple of weeks apart. Questions? Anyone? Anyone?

Look at my abs in this picture-is that spilled over? Dr. Joe said my peaking plan for this was the silliest peaking plan he'd ever heard. (It was not from Joe, it was from another very respected trainer.)

The non-tann pictures are sodium loaded water loaded, and carb depleted. My arms, shoulders and back have never looked better, but my abs obliques legs and glutes were soft. I want to have the thickness and the separation... vascularity is a given. Believe it or not these pictures are 6 days apart. I was severely dehydrated for the tanned pictures. That was back when I thought you had to be dehydrated on stage.

Those are at my predicted peak 5 days after the sodium load and 2 days before my complete water dehydration

Yea I know, thats why I'm gonna use Dr. Joe's help for my next competition. I think it is so important to be able to get the thickness and the separation at the same time.... while not feeling like you may die at any second, haha but seriously

That is a huge difference in just 6 days! I thought they were from 2 different competitions, at least a year apart. Your face is completely transformed, puffy and full in non tan pics and very lean in the tan ones. Wow. I would have said you needed to definitely be leaner in the non tan pics and it was just water retention? Amazing what the human body can do. I love this thread. Great learning experience!

I'm glad Austin posted his images and that Graig posted the shots of Joe. The spill-over picture of Joe is important and the water retented picture of Austin is good too. I'll give a bit more information about my shots (based on your observastions) to either help you or make things harder. Here ya go: - There is no spill-over picture of me shown.
- There is no water retented picture of me shown.
- My body fat percent is the same in all five images.
Carbs drive the continuum from flat to crisp/full to spilling over to water retented/ bloated. Joe works scientifically with not just the carbs but also your training, salt, fat, cardio and protein as well as your particular metabolism starting early in peak week to peak you perfectly. These other macros as well as all these other components are part of the equation as well. This is why he needs to memorize how you metabolism works early on, and why it's important that you tell him the truth about everything you do, and don't do. (even if you binge.) I hope others feel free to post their shots as well.

Great explaination mary! austin's pics are interesting to look at and proves that when you peak the way other trainer's/guru's do it and not the way joe guides us it is so hard to predict and can be very inconsistant. austin's pics are SO dramatic in terms of appearance, that will send you into a crazy state of mind the week before the show....with joe he will always be able to peak you every time properly, there is no dramatic swings in your body. i'm not picking on austin here, because it seems that he realized there was a better way, and the rebound effect from peaking with the soduim loading, water depletion etc is brutal and tough to duplicate back to back weeks and over many weeks. and many of us want to do more than one show, and that rebound can wreak havoc.
