I wake up at 445am and am at the gym by 5am. What type of nutrition would you use preworkout while precontest. I was using 1 scoop of whey but my stomach can not longer handle that. I was thinking of have 6 grams of BCAA with 20 grams of dextrose. I would mimic the same thing post workout followed by 2 scoops of whey and 50 grams of a complex carb when I get home. I am alloted 185 grams of carbs a day with my current macros. What do you guys think?

I would wake up earlier to cook or cook breakfast the night before and stick it in the fridge for the morning. Have some Oatmeal and egg whites or chicken some kind of lean protein with carbs pre workout. Carbs pre workout are very important and adding BCAA's can only help.

Menna, That situation would be ideal, but I would puke if I had to eat something liek like just before I worked out. I can not even stomach 1 scoop of whey just before I lift.

The reason is that you are eating it too close to your workout...and arent having enough timeto digest. Either get up earlier or push back workout. Get up an give enough time allow food to digest at least 30 minutes or so. The blood is in your stomach when you eat and when you start pumpin it...it spends less time and less blood in your stomach and the food doesnt get digested very well...its a good way to get some GI problems. Why do you have to get up so early?

Good advice Lucas and I realize the timing is the issue, but I can not change that. I have to get up so early for work. I was thinking my body would quickly clear the dextrose/BCAA and allow me to workout without adjusting my schedule. I am just not sure if the extra dextrose would hurt the fat loss process. What do you think?

Thats a DJoe question But he has me on pre workout nutrition like this. 4 tbsp gatorade(straight up simple) Pre Whey + Dextrose (5 tbsp) Post 4 tbsp gatorade then oatmeal with 1.5 scoop whey ALOT OF CARBS but pre is simple. Gatorade gets in there quick and wont upset the stomach I dont know what body type you are, but you look ecto to me at least a little. So i am sure the simple wont effect you that much. Your insulin levels dont go up a whole lot as much as MENNAS per say since he is very sensitive to simple sugars and he puts on weight easily. I am just giving you my limited knowledge, but thats what i think What are your macros? Mine are 350/275/60 then two 500/250/60 higher days I feel plenty energized with gatorade and it doesnt mess up my fat loss, but i dont knowhow far along you are in your diet. With the scheduling, What time to you go to bed? I can get up and workout before class at eight by going to bed at ten and geting up at 5:50 and eating then chilling for 30 minutes and then going to the gym. Any way you can do that? Go to bed earlier and then get up even earlier....even though you will see the sun set :)

I am actually a meso/endo. I am at the start of my diet. I can bulk on your dieting macros. My macros are 185/215/45 with about 15 grams of BCAA per day. I am currently 5' 9" 225lbs at 14 - 15% (i still have my top row of abs (well kinda) I have not competed in many years, but I just finished a very long powerlifting phase and I feel I am getting a bit sloppy. I plan on getting back into the 6% range. 15% is just out of line. I think anything above 10 - 12% is out of line. Unfortunately, my schedule is set in stone. Gatorade and BCAA just may do the trick.

Actually, Lucas, I wouldn't be so dogmatic as to say, "The reason is you're eating too close to your workout..." and "It's a good way to get some GI problems..." - no evidence of that except for that. Some people just can't eat much early. I'd try to build your tolerance up a little, Eric. Start with just a rice cake with a little PB. Dumping a bunch of BCAAs will likely make your stomach feel worse. Five to six grams is ideal, but that's a lot actually for some people. I'd also suggest sipping on the whey and some grapejuice during the workout (you may want to dilute it with some water or mix it in a blender with some ice). You need some food going in - both some aminos to start protein synthesis and some carbs for energy). If you can build up from the rice cake to some cream of rice or eventually a little oats with flaxseed oil and whey, you'll feel the difference of having something in the tank before you lift.

I have a 1/2 cup oats, 1/2 scoop whey, and usually some strawberries pre workout. I get done eating about 15 minutes before my workout begins, and I have no problems with nausea.

You're killing me with the pancakes and poptarts! I'm pretty standard with 1 scoop protein powder and 1/2 cup oats. Usually 45 minutes to an hour (4:45-5:00 am) prior to lifting. Post workout usually consists of an EAS Myoplex shake (macros are 42/20/7) within 30 minutes of finishing up (7:30 am).
