no way, its soo cookie cutter man. I still dont buy the whole no carbs thing unless you are non-natural. But i am also sure there are very few naturals out there who respond well to no CHOs and high Fats.

Good timing; here's part of an article I just finished.  I think you'll figure out what I think of the official Scivation diet.

I think we’re all aware of the “virtues” extolled regarding low-carb/ketogenic dieting: decreased insulin, fast weight loss…but what you’re not told is how hard your metabolism can be hit.  The claim that more protein and more fat keep metabolic hormones higher (such as testosterone) just doesn’t hold up to scrutiny.  Quite the opposite.  Initially, weight loss is rapid, but without enough carbohydrates the process slows on many levels.  The most basic is that for fat loss to occur, glucose has to be available at the cellular level.  Moving up through hormonal processes and biochemistry, it’s even evident in behavior.  If you feel like you’re walking in quicksand, don’t have energy for workouts or cardio, and generally feel like a slug, how much energy do you think you’re using?  Without realizing it, you can be using a couple hundred fewer calories per day just because you feel so lousy and aren’t as active.  That mirrors what’s happening at the cellular level providing much of the reason dropping carbs too low decreases your rate of fat loss over the long-term.

Speaking of behavior, I don’t know of anyone that escapes an occasional binge when dieting on too low of carbohydrates.  Unfortunately it can become a frustrating cycle of binging/purging.  When the metabolism is decreased through dieting and a rapid intake of food occurs, you don’t get just a nice, clean “refilling” of glycogen stores.  When insulin does trigger liver and muscle glycogen uptake, lipogenesis also begins.  That means you’re storing new body fat.  This happens instantly and it happens every time you eat too much carbohydrate per meal.  The more you eat, the more you store.  And I wish it stopped there.  You may not notice a telling negative result if you over do it once in awhile, but when it becomes repetitive it can get ugly.  Two binge/purge cycles and body fat loss has been measured to slow by 50%.  Yes, 50%.  Then, due to increasing insulin sensitivity, regain during binges increased by 300%.  Not exactly the cycle you want to be in; cutting your fat-loss pace in half and every time you eat any carbohydrates you convert three times more into body fat than usual?   Wow!  Too few carbs in your diet and your metabolism is slashed; too many carbs in one meal and we gain body fat – Goldie Locks may have been onto something.  The take home here is that though carbs obviously have to be reduced to lose body fat, we need some to keep our metabolism as high as we can.  Cut them too low and you’ll likely see the binge/purge cycle bury your chance of looking like granite.  Your metabolism will fall so far and your insulin sensitivity increase so high that you’ll have to stop dieting for a few weeks just to stabilize and be able to move forward again.  Or you can keep pushing against an already hormonally-crushed metabolism.  Let me know how that works out.

Joe, that second paragraph sounds strangely familiar and definitely hits home! It explains a lot for me!

If you are dieting for 2-4 weeks and have to get ready for a pool party, photo shoot or something like that then the no carb diet I think will work but when you are dieting for a bodybuilding contest naturally you should diet for a minimum of 12 weeks and that’s if you are in good shape to start. Moderate carbs are the way to go for a contest diet.

I didn't know that Dave Palumbo works for Scivation! HAHAHAHA

Carbs are protein sparing. This kind of seems important to me. LOL!

PS: I opened this thread and I now weigh a rock hard 63 pounds. I'm diced.

You guys are harsh.  I feel the scivation cut diet is a very sound diet.  You carb up every three days and eat grapefruit, blueberries, and greens daily.  This method can be very effective.  Some people just can not endure starches on a daily basis.

Eric- not intended to be harsh, just realistic....i wasn't refering to the first cut diet, but the new book the C.H.A. diet..it is basically ZERO carbs daily and like 100 grams fat per day...it's a metabolic nightmare, no matter how carb sensitive you are.

Eric, what do you base "very sound diet" on?  You'll notice I didn't take shots at the diet as I haven't read every word, but based on Graig and Jerry's comments (and yours) I have the outline of it and based on metabolic science and research, it doesn't look good.  Educate me on what it's like entirely and I could change my mind.  But the last diet I reviewed came from a camp where the people putting it together and giving it to clients had degrees in marketing and engineering.  Still boggles my mind how people are willing to trust their health and competitive success to people who know absolutely nothing.

Graig,

My mistake.  I assumed your were talking about the new cut diet version 4.

Doc,

In a nutshell, the diet is low carb with a starchy carb up every three days.  It is not a no carb diet but all of your carbs come from greens, grapefruit, and blueberries.  This diet is not meant to be a keto diet. It is more based off of insulin control.  This diet reminds me of the beverly diets.  Graig and I were actually talking about different diets.  The book is an easy read.  Take a look at if you get a chance.
