In the category of "closing the barn door AFTER the horses have gotten out", I'd like to understand what everyone believes to be the best shoe for support when going heavy on deads and squats? Ideally, I like to have a pair that is versatile enough to use with all training so that I'm not always changing shoes in the middle of the workout, etc.

hey craig - if you want specialized shoes to ensure a proper stance and protect joints of knees, talk to Joe about hard orthodics.

I use lifting shoes from Otomix. Some of the power lifters I know like Chuck Taylors. I did notice a huge difference in form when I switched to a lifting shoe. It's like standing on a board, my foot is flat vs. my running shoes which throw my body forward. I would definitely invest in some lifting shoes.

I use those Puma shoes...flat on bottom. Work great for me. I was wearing them at camp lucas

Lucas' shoes have the right bottom but no ankle support. Get the Otomix as Tori suggests and on the heaviest sets lace them up high and tight. As Mary said, given your current foot issue, it would be a good idea for me to check out your foot structure/function. I need to cast you for orthotics too, McCauley - remind me to do that.

I have always used wrestling shoes. They have good ankle support and they are flat on the floor.
