So my question is on form... I know that Jordan had a question about the squat and his sacrum rounding under when he gets to a certain point. I have the same issue and have found that basically I can get to 90 degrees (not parallel) before my sacrum starts rounding. Question: is that acceptable?

Question 2: I understand that Dr. Joe feels that going no lower than the chin on incline presses is sufficient. Would this same principle still apply when using DB's?

 Thanks all!

I think going below or to where you are going is hitting it deep enough. Going to low with alot of weight will definitely catch up to you.

With incline presses, going to the chin saved my shoulder from pending doom. Seriously going way below parallel doesnt work well with your shoulder muscles. Thats my opinion from experience

Thanks Lucas I appreciate the feedback. With Dumbells it seems like I'm really tempted to stretch the range of motion really far in any kind of press, weather it be military, incline, flat or decline. I have had shoulder problems in the past but that was baseball related. Still it wouldn't hurt to make sure that doesn't happen again. Thanks again!

Yes and yes.

Rounding your sacrum is risking devasting injury...so go as low as you can...but as soon as that pelvis starts to round, thats as low as you go.

Incline presses: let your shoulders dictate how deep you go on that.

The shoulders are unique in that they provide the most motion of any joint - virtually three dimensional.  Compared to the hip which has a deep acetabulum (cup joint) with hard cartilage and massive stability, your shoulder has an incredibly shallow fossa to sit in and the rest of the joint structure is a flimsy labrum.  The rotator cuff tendons and delt literally hold it together.  The shoulder is built for mobility, but not with maximum load.  With lighter weights, go deep if you feel safe. With heavier loads, shorten up or you will injur your supraspinatus tendon and long head of the bicep tendon.

Thanks so much guys for the advice. Tomorrow is shoulder/chest/tris so this is going to be applied immediately. Thanks!

Another question re: the squat.  This morning I went 6 work sets gradually upping weight to a 4 rep max of 275 before dropping down to 2 sets of 25 at 185.  The last 2 sets my left hand went numb and it remains that way now 90 minutes after finishing my workout.

Am I doing something wrong?  What could be causing that sensation?

I would say that is probably not normal... just a guess. I know how you feel though, that has happened to me too. However I stopped the exercise right away but it looks like you took it like a champ. Maybe we should turn this into a weird bodybuilding version of unsolved mysteries. I have talked to a lot of people and everyone seems to have something "weird" that their body does that no one has heard of... For instance, Whenever I go deep into anything anaerobic, my teeth, gums and jaw start to absolutely throb in pain... I mean as soon as I stop sprinting or squating or jumping the immediately starts. It normally happens on those days when I am pushing myself to puking. Nice visual ehh? It's not that I clamp my teeth together because I have focused on that before... just one of those things I guess.

Ok new forum, Unsolved mysteries... your body is weird!

I get the tingling sensation too Craig when i do heavy heavy lifting and one rep maxes. I think its endorphins. I like it alot. Very pleasant feeling not nauseating or dizzy....just a fuzzy fuzzy feeling.

We need to look at your form on the squat then. That should not be happening. LOL.

Endorphins? That's hilarious.  Craig, is your neck stiff or sore or the front of your shoulder in toward your pec tendon?  Happen on at any other times?

No, no and maybe???.  I have an old rotator cuff injury that sometimes acts up on bench presses, but it really hasn't come into play on much else.
