So, I'm at the store getting my new issue of NB&F and I'm reading through the articles and WOW!!  A entire article on slamming Dr Joe!!!  A whole article, jee what did the good Dr. do to this guy?????

The article is by Fred DiMenna and it starts on page 58-59 then goes to page 162 then 164.  The man had a lot to say I quess.  Since the good Dr. writes for this Mag as well as Sean, I'm surprized they printed this.

You guys can read my retort on the Dead Lift thread right above this one.  And, of course, you can see his comments in the mag itself.  But, for the sake of answering everything right here, let me explain.

Fred is in England working on a PhD in exercise physiology.  As such, he brings forth good information in articles - very useful - and I've often referred to him in a positive light.  In one post where I was complimenting an article and referring to it, I said (and I now paraphrase) that the downside to reading him is that he writes like a typical grad student...trying to impress everyone with how many big words he can use in one sentence and he basically makes himself unreadable to many.  Kind of like Layne running around the internet and other people's forums doing the same thing - got ya right back, buddy ; )  He took that very offensively and decided to spend a whole article ripping on me.  I emailed Steve with the same question - why in the world would you print something so childish?  One good author taking personal shots at another - and shots that are completely wrong and foundless?  He said he didn't realize that one paragraph was so blatant - he is the editor-in-chief for about 5 or 6 magazines, and after reading it again...this time in light of my protest - he apologize profusely and said he would dedicate his editorial to make it right.  I told him I'd rather him not - I'm a big boy and if one person wants to look like a defensive crybaby over my one comment about his writing style after I've been so favorable about his talent, then let him.  The magazine has already endured a moronic use of space, we don't need to add to it.  Read through the whole Dead Lift thread if you want more details.  I emailed Fred back and forth directly several times and he went from spending a whole article bashing me because he was so offended about the one writing style comment to saying it didn't bother him at all to then claiming he was just using sarcasm to make his article interesting to next admitting he didn't even want the open debate on the dead lift with me (offered by the magazine and the beginning context of the entire article anyway) because he hasn't studied the biomechanics of the dead lift and has no opinion on it as a bodybuilding lift - after he spent two articles saying it has no value due to its biomechanics.  As I told Steve Downs, I felt it was best to just let it die so that this type of publicity didn't reflect negatively on the magazine, him, or Fred - but here we are.  I take responsibility to chiding Fred in humor about how he chooses to write - but all framed in compliments right there in the context of my statement...in a small post on a small thread in a small forum.  He decided to attack in a magazine article with unknowable and untrue defamatory character remarks.  But, since I referenced him first - I forfeit any right to be angry and really am not.  It's all kind of funny at this point and I actually like a little chaos and conflict

hey we've debated before and had our disagreements but I felt we always kept it civil and backed up our respective arguments with evidence.  I guess some people have trouble seperating 'beliefs' and 'science debate'

I do agree with you about writing style.  I went through a phase where I felt I had to use every big word in the book, I quickly realized people don't give a crap about an article if they can't understand it and will just continue to turn the page.

Of course I agree, all joking aside.  I will take that a step further and say the majority of people have trouble keeping it friendly.  I've only been doing this for a few years and already I've been slandered, had people try to take clients behind my back, been undercut, and had other 'gurus' in the area trashing my name.  Really it's fine with me, I figure if they have to resort to that kind of nonsense it's probably because that's their only recourse because they simply are not very good at what they do.  

Just keep doing what you do, results speak for themselves.  

I'm sorry if I hit an all ready sensetive nerve.  I just thought that was way out of line.  I have always respected NB&F (as well as the good Dr.) for a real source of information.  I have a feeling I, as well as this whole forum, would go to the mat for you!!!
