Josh, thought I'd move your post to answer it here - just found it in the other category:

I would like to get eveyone's input on this, because I have been experiencing some severe knee pains just recently (as in last day or so), and it does concern me.

I get these knee pains if I straighten my leg out all the way flexed, such as when I am streching or even walking. It is a sharp pain and succeeds in catching me off guard a lot. I am not sure what is causing this, but I think I have an idea. I used to get similar pains when I would go heavy on the leg extensions. Well, last workout I went heavy on the leg extension due to I can lol, my legs are getting stronger faster than I thought possible. Anyway, is this something to worry about, or is it just a pain I have to deal with? I am just wanting to make sure it isn't something that could add up over time and eventually result in some really knee/leg damage. Again, I usually only get these pains after going heavy on legs.

It might be worthy to note that my leg day was Friday, and the pain is just now really showing up today (Monday). I ran saturday, HIT cardio (if that is the correct name), a quick 2 mile run on a tread mill.

That is such a tiny amount of info, Josh - I'll need to know where you feel it, how it feels, if it hurts at any other times, and be specific on where....even take a pic pointing to it and post it.  Thanks!

Josh

Dr asks some great questions, I would have a couple more.

1. Do you hear any popping or clicking? Is it on the inside or outside of you kneecap?

2. Any swelling?

3. Have you had any injuries in the past to any of your cruciate ligaments - anterior, posterior, medial? Ex. Torn acl.

4.Leg extensions are hard for many people with bad knees as it is an open chain exercise and as you extend up, gravity wants to take you down. Anyone who has an imbalance with their muscles ( ham:quad ratio) has a tendancy( not always) to exhibit pain in that exercise, in my experience. Do you have pain with squats or leg presses?

Just a couple points of clarity and I am sure Dr will get you fixed!!

Josh, forgot all about your knee pain - should've looked at it when you were in town.  Next time.
