hey guys, I have an Inzer forever lever belt, medium 13mm. I absolutely love it. I was lifting with it and it's tight but I still felt like I could probably get 1 more notch down. so I tried it and i can get into it but it is really tight, in pinches my hips at the bottom of a squat. (just tried it out squatting without weight). would you all say this is too tight or do you want it as tight as you can get?
thanks, -Layne

I would err too tight as opposed to too loose. Belts are only effective if they are increasing the IAP and providing support (anteriro and posterior)...so I say keep it tight. Now if its so tight that you cant breath/lift, then you have to back it off. Mine is tight as hell right now. It digs into my hips for sure. I have to take a big breath and really suck it in to lock it down. But once its on, I feel stable as hell under weight. I am sure Joe will weigh in on this as well. I want that ratcheting Inzer. That thing looks SWEET.

You're belt can never be to tight, and you can never get to big. Two facts in life that we need to learn to live with!

it's pretty tight on the notch before it... when i go one more notch it is SUPER tight and i when i squat down it digs my hips. i'm just worried that it will affect my lift/breathing if it's too tight

I go as tight as possible where I can still breathe normally. I have a large Inzer lever- red/blue/white custom leather. I'm in love with it. Strange to see you asking a question, not answering Layne .

I'm telling ya, you'll be fine. Watch some powerlifters sometime. They get it so tight, their eyes are about ready to pop out of their head. I would try moving your belt up just a bit so it's not digging into your hips. You worry to much Layne!

Here's a thread we had earlier where Joe chimes in about when to use a belt and how tight to go. http://thedietdoc.com/forums/2/topics/602

Dont wear one when training. Been doing lot's of reading, talking with lot's of powerlifters. Only wear gear when attempting 1 rep max on squat or deads. Actually havent wore one in about 7 months. Feel much stronger, weights I used to wear one with, no need anymore. Do lot's of lifts that strengthen my whole core.

I feel a belt is a must if you are squating/deadlifting for any set of 3 reps or less. I have made the mistake of not using a belt in the past and have learned the hard way. I do not feel a belt should be used for anything over 3 or 4 reps.
