Wayne will chime in here. The dude speaks this subject for a living. He has been competing in this realm for like 15 years.

I have nothing to say about this McCauley! I quit powerlifting. A powerlifter is just somebody who can't make it as bodybuilder(me). No but really, if you want to talk some shop about powerlifting, lay it on me. Nothing beats being under some bone crushing weight. Read some of Louie Simmons articles. He is the shiznit when it comes to powerlifting.

Wayne, how applicable do you think westside is for someone who does meets raw since many of their movements focus on top end strength? I have been doing modified westside, with paused single board presses, deeper box squats and pause squats and not doing too many bands or chains since the lockout is not likely to be the problem in my lifts. -Layne

Layne, I think some of the exercises are usefull, but if you are doing a raw competition I would really focus on your explosive strength from the start of which ever exercise you are doing. Tricep strength is very important when you are competing with a shirt on, but not as important when you are competing raw, cause if you can't get the weight moving off your chest, it does not matter how strong your triceps are. If you are competing raw I would stick with exercises that are going to focus on your full range of motion, and your explosiveness. I think speed sets are very helpfull no matter if you are competing raw or not.

Layne, Are you going to do some powerlifting meets while you are getting ready for the pro stage? My training partner is/was a powerlifter and has harrassed me to do a meet since we started working out. I am just too chicken Sh*t to get under that big weight!

Been doing powerlifting myself lately. Would love to do a meet. Always have lifted heavy, always did the 3 powerlifts in my training. I just like the challenge of the heavy weight. I have been in contact with Brad Gillingham about some of the training. I have his deadlift video. Excellent. The training is a bit different. But I welcome the change. Most of the stuff I have been doing anyway. He sent me some info that has been very useful. I bought a book on powerlifting as well. I do better when I can read the information and visualize myself doing it. So far, training is great. As I said earlier, I love heavy weightlifting.

Well I am going to finish off with my powerlifting stint and get back into the bodybuilding game. Westside training has been a great ride and I will use it again in the future. My rotator has been buging me so I am going to give up bb bench for a while and use strictly dumbbells (yes, I should have listened to you Dr. Joe!!!)
